Senior Staff Attorney (Forced Labor Programs)

Position Summary
This Senior Staff Attorney position will be responsible for developing and litigating innovative theories in the areas of labor, corporate and investor accountability, and labor migration systems in U.S. and international fora, and for innovating and supporting related movement, campaign, and policy advocacy efforts.
This Senior Staff Attorney position will focus on (i) global supply chain strategies responding to forced labor and (ii) bringing the experience of low-wage women workers to expand C190’s definitions and concepts into efforts to regulate trade, corporate accountability, and supply chains.
This Senior Staff Attorney reports to the Forced Labor Programs Director and is also part of the legal department. The Senior Staff Attorney will collaborate with program and legal team members, supervise law fellows and law clerks and build co-counseling relationships.

- Work in collaboration with team members and partner organizations to assist in the development of legal and advocacy strategies, including public campaigns and communications.
- Lead policy advocacy with the U.S. Government and international fora.
- Develop and implement innovative legal theories on corporate accountability in U.S. and international fora.
- Manage cases and develop legal resources to support strategic advocacy and campaign objectives;
- Prepare legal memorandums, court briefs, and filings for U.S. and other legal systems.
- Represent the organization in networks and gatherings that require legal expertise and serve as spokesperson for cases and issues covered by the position.
- Collaborate amongst colleagues in various program areas to develop strategies for advancing the organization’s positions.
- Develop and manage relationships related to co-counseling, law fellows, and legal intern programs.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a commitment to leading on innovative legal and policy advocacy to drive a more equitable global economy through defending worker rights and building worker power. This docket includes leading with a strong gender focus and will bring many of the following qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience developing and leading litigation and/or policy advocacy in relevant areas including trade, corporate and investor accountability, and global supply chains.
- Specific experience advancing gender norms and advocating on behalf of low-wage women workers.
- Demonstrated effectiveness on working with unions and/or community groups to develop and implement complex and long-term advocacy and campaign work.
- Ability to learn new areas of law and policy, recognize and define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions in the context of a variety of situations with multiple variables, both predictable and unpredictable.
- Demonstrated excellence at fact gathering, research, and writing skills.
- Ability to condense and convey such information to grassroots partners and diverse community members.
- Confidence in presenting and facilitating policy and advocacy meetings with stakeholders and government officials.
- Experience with program management including maintaining budgets and monitoring and evaluation of programs.
- Excellent communications skills, including listening, writing, editing, and speaking to different stakeholders.
- Commitment to working as a team player – collaborating across projects, communicating clearly, and contributing to strengthening the organization.
- Comfort responding quickly and balancing priorities.
- High level of organization, self- direction, and strong attention to detail.
- Sense of humor in order to maintain perspective and balance.
- Bilingual and/or Bicultural.
- Able to travel in the U.S. and globally to build the program and organization.
- A U.S. law degree and either admission to the bar of a U.S. state or an application in process.
Job status: Full-time, exempt, member of IFPTE Local 70 Bargaining Unit
Salary Range: $80,000- $90,000 plus benefits including full medical coverage for employee and family.
