Organizational Background

Global Labor Justice- International Labor Rights Forum (GLJ-ILRF) is a new merged organization bringing strategic capacity to cross sectoral work on global value chains and labor migration corridors. GLJ-ILRF holds global corporations accountable for labor rights violations in their supply chains; advances policies and laws that protect decent work and just migration; and strengthens freedom of association, new forms of bargaining, and worker organizations.

Position Summary

GLJ-ILRF seeks law interns for Summer 2021 to support all aspects of its legal and policy advocacy in U.S. and international fora in the areas of labor rights, migrant rights, and corporate and investor accountability. 

Global Labor Justice- International Labor Rights Forum (GLJ-ILRF) is a new merged organization bringing strategic capacity to cross-sectoral work on global value chains and labor migration corridors. GLJ-ILRF holds global corporations accountable for labor rights violations in their supply chains; advances policies and laws that protect decent work and just migration; and strengthens freedom of association, new forms of bargaining, and worker organizations.Law interns report to the Legal and Policy Director but will have the opportunity to work across the organization under direct supervision of GLJ-ILRF legal and advocacy staff based on organizational needs as well as intern interest. This internship provides an opportunity to gain experience in  traditional legal and advocacy work. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Legal and legislative research related to corporate finance, global supply chains with a law and political economy lens;
  • Drafting legal memorandums, reports, letters and other documents;
  • Participating in organizing meetings with partners and allies;
  • Providing organizing and other support to core campaigns.
  • In addition, interns will be provided opportunities to attend educational sessions throughout the summer; topics include ongoing work at the organization, partner or ally work, and movement lawyering. 

Qualifications:

Applicants should have strong legal research and writing skills; a desire and ability to work with diverse groups of people; the ability to work collaboratively; the ability to multitask and pay attention to detail. Excellent communications skills, including listening, writing, editing, and speaking. Sense of humor in order to maintain perspective and balance. Fluency or proficiency in another language are useful.

Current law student (rising 2L or 3L). Strong interest in international labor, migrant, and/or human rights law, movements and organizing, racial and gender justice, and corporate accountability. 

Location: Summer 2021 law interns positions can be performed remotely in light of COVID-19; however, interns can work from GLJ-ILRF’s Washington D.C. office if desired.

Duration: Full-time for 10 weeks but can be longer for interested students. 

Compensation: GLJ-ILRF will work with interns who do not have access to outside funding to obtain academic credit for their work.
